All of them prostitute themselves for the possession of power just as naturally as they drink their coffee - they climb the ladder and constantly conspire. On the other hand, we have The People. Always abject, they continually play football pools, trying to hit the jackpot; they hunt for hidden treasure; they applaud the rulers; but at some point, they begin to sense their latent power. The historic dead-end of such a society comes with its surrender to fire and with its members slaughtering one another. However, this is not necessarily the end. It could be a new beginning. We shall see.
